Recession, anybody?

This past week, Mark Teixeira inked a pretty sweet deal with the New York Yankees (surprise, surprise). For the next eight years, the "poor" man will be making $22.5 million on average. This does not include a $5 million signing bonus and untold dollars in personal endorsements.

During the month of December, the Yanks have signed CC Sabathia ($23 million per over seven years) and A.J. Burnett ($18.5 million per over five). So in the next five years, the NYY will dish out $64 million per year for these three men to swing a bat or pitch every 4 to 5 days. This amount is almost three times the amount for the ENTIRE payroll for the 22 man roster for the Florida Marlins.

"These is hard times."
